風奏 -Fuuka-
Year : 2022
風奏 -Fuuka- is a family of forty-eight wind chimes each cast from the same mother mold with every individual child making distinct sounds from the wind. Made in the Windy City of Chicago, these objects invite us to interact with nature, reminding the sparks surrounding our world.

SLIPCASTING
is a unique method that blends handcraft and mass production into a single workflow. This set of ceramic wind chimes reflects the characteristics of how objects develop through the porcelain slip casting process. Each set includes twelve individual Furin wind chimes with varying wall thicknesses, derived from different casting times (in 5-minute increments, ranging from five to sixty minutes long), creating a musical scale. In an industrialized world where the market is overflowing with products, it is becoming increasingly challenging for people to notice the unseen processes and labor involved in manufacturing. By incorporating the essences of slip casting and ceramic materials into the final form and interaction, this object aims to highlight the hidden excitements in our lives.
Fuuka
Fuuka adopts the format of the Japanese Furin, consisting of three components: the body, the zetsu (the ringer), and the tanzaku (wind catcher). For Fuuka to produce sound, the length between the zetsu and tanzaku is critical. Both being too short and being too long result in minimal swinging, producing no sound.
